AT&T Awards Laptops to Bridge Digital Divide

AT&T provides 200 laptops to JAG Nevada youth statewide

AT&T and Human-I-T provided refurbished laptops and backpacks to JAG Nevada students and follow-up youth across the state. This distribution was part of a broader AT&T employee effort to help bridge the digital divide and equip 20,000 students across the country with laptops and backpacks as they head back to school. The backpacks included notebooks, pencils and headphones, as well as cards of encouragement written by AT&T employees.

Omar Saucedo, JAG Nevada Board Member and AT&T Director – External Affairs and Bryant Milesi, AT&T Director – External Affairs were on hand for the distribution events held Aug. 26 at Douglas High School in Minden, and the Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce, and Aug. 30, at Legacy High School in Las Vegas.

“The difference a contribution like this can make cannot be understated – it can be life changing for our JAG students,” said JAG Nevada Executive Director Dr. René Cantú. “We are excited to partner with AT&T and Human-I-T on this significant donation and the impact it will have on their future success.”

Move-In Day for Tesla & TMCC Apprentices

JAG Nevada’s recent graduates from around the state received a warm welcome as they moved into their new apartments in Reno to begin training for the Manufacturing Development Program.

Gift baskets from SilverSummit Healthplan and the Katie Grace Foundation provided move-in essentials to the Reno’s newest residents. They received laundry baskets packed with detergent, cleaning supplies, personal care items and a cozy blanket. Thank you to our generous sponsors for making their first place feel more like a home. A great way to celebrate Workforce Development month!

Catching up with Korda – Alumni story

Korda was Vice President of 3 programs at Legacy High School, in North Las Vegas. Korda joined JAG Nevada as a sophomore, which was a rocky first year of high school, due to COVID.

“I was stuck inside my comfort zone, and I didn’t want to try new things. I didn’t know what I wanted in life.” That quickly changed when Specialist Hanna Andersen joined the program.

“She gave me the motivation I needed to try new things. She pushed me to be my better self, to always thrive, so I was able to find my career as a medical assistant.”

Korda credits the experience at the National Student Leadership Academy in Washington, D.C., as a turning point.

“With this opportunity, I was able to network with other JAG students across the United States who had the same story as me. I was also able to represent Nevada on a national level by speaking to Nevada senators and representatives about how JAG offers so many life-changing opportunities.

“The things that I have learned from JAG, I will always carry them with me to encourage younger youth to join the program so they can also find their starting point.”

Thank you, Korda. We wish you great success in your career and in life.
