JAG Nevada Student Leaders Compete in Salt Lake

Congratulations to all the students who represented their programs, their state and their peers as they traveled to Salt Lake City for the JAG National Career Development Conference. 

Elijah, State Executive Vice President, North, from Douglas County High School, was named as a Top 12 JAGCA Officer Candidates for Parliamentarian! Anthony from Legacy High School, won 5th place for the JAG Promo Video.

All students represented JAG Nevada incredibly well throughout the conference and competitions, and we are proud to congratulate all our competitors and members of the Nevada State Career Association.

Al Davis Eddie Robinson Leadership Academy

JAG Nevada has partnered with the Al Davis Eddie Robinson Leadership Academy to provide the leadership experience, “Passport to Excellence,” designed to inspire and prepare students for future success. Special thanks to Jane'e Murphy, Executive Director, for arranging this excellent opportunity for JAG Nevada youth. 

Students from multiple Clark County JAG programs had an inspiring experience at the Al Davis Eddie Robinson Leadership Academy, where they explored leadership, teamwork, and career pathways.

Through interactive sessions and real-world insights, students gained valuable skills and motivation to pursue their future goals with confidence. Students also participated in a raffle in which several students got the opportunity to speak in front of a large group to complete a specific task and potentially win a prize for overcoming fear and pushing through.

This interactive event provided high school students a resource-focused day where they could connect with organizations and learn about pathways after graduation.

The Al Davis Eddie Robinson Leadership Academy is committed to building inclusive pathways to leadership across the sports industry by expanding access to career opportunities for individuals historically excluded from the field.

The academy provides immersive career development, elite mentorship, and leadership training, equipping participants to thrive in sports business, coaching, front office operations, and beyond.

Specialist Celebrates Scholars from Churchill County 

When Hailey, Canberra, Trinity, and Alyssa walked into my classroom, they carried something most people never see, the quiet, heavy weight of being first. First in their families to dream about college. First to fill out applications they had no roadmap for. First to raise their hands and say, “I want more.”

They are proud Native American women. They are daughters, sisters, and community members who grew up knowing the statistics written about people who look like them, and chose, every single day, to rewrite them.

Alyssa and Trinity are going to save lives as nurses. Hailey is going to run into burning buildings as a firefighter. Canberra is going to protect our planet as an environmental scientist. And this year? All four of them earned scholarships. Different ones. Hard-won ones. Deserved ones.

I have watched these young women doubt themselves in the moments when the paperwork felt impossible, when the doors felt closed, when the world wasn’t making it easy. I have watched them show up anyway, to class, to competitions, to their own futures and when they had every reason not to. This is what people don’t tell you about first-generation students. They don’t just carry their own dreams. They carry every person who came before them who never got the chance. Every aunt who sacrificed. Every grandmother who prayed. Every mother who worked double shifts so her daughter could sit in a classroom and be told — maybe for the first time — “You are capable. You are enough. You belong here.”

To Hailey, Canberra, Trinity, and Alyssa. You walked in as students. You leave as proof. Proof that where you come from does not decide where you are going. Proof that four young Native American women from Fallon, Nevada can earn scholarships, shatter ceilings, and change the world. Proof that when someone believes in you long enough, you start to believe in yourself. I did not build your future. You did. I just had the privilege of watching. Congratulations, my scholars. This is only the beginning.
