Perea elected Chair of JAG Nevada Board of Directors
Please join us in welcoming Dennis Perea as the new Chair of the JAG Nevada Board of Directors. Perea brings decades of experience in workforce development, public service, and financial management to the role, along with a deep, long-standing commitment to the success of Nevada’s students.
Perea holds Seat 4 on the Ely City Council and serves on the Governor’s
Workforce Development Board, where he chairs the Workforce and Economic
Development Sub-Committee. He also sits on the Nevada Northern Railway Board of
Directors. Previously, Perea served as Deputy Director and Interim Director of the
Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), where he helped launch the Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates program.
“When Governor Sandoval wished to start JAG Nevada, he tapped Dennis to play a pivotal role in establishing this life-changing program for Nevada's youth,” said Dr. René Cantú, Executive Director of JAG Nevada. “Dennis drove around the entire state with me as we created partnerships with 14 Nevada school districts and made JAG Nevada a public benefit corporation of true impact!”
Perea said, “I am honored to serve as Board Chair for JAG Nevada. JAG’s proven model changes lives by surrounding young people with the guidance, skills, and work-based learning they need to succeed. I look forward to working with the board, staff, educators, and industry partners to grow JAG’s impact for Nevada students.”
A U.S. Navy veteran, Perea holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Management Information Systems from Southern Utah University. His public-sector and financial background, combined with statewide workforce leadership, position him to advance JAG Nevada’s mission and strengthen cross-sector collaboration for youth career pathways.
JAG Nevada’s Board and leadership team will work with Chair Perea over the coming months to set strategic priorities focused on student outcomes, employer engagement, and sustainable growth across urban and rural school districts.
