Nevadaworks and JAG partner for better youth outcomes

Nevadaworks and JAG join forces to connect grads with careers

JAG Nevada is excited to join forces with Nevadaworks to address critical labor shortages and help bring opportunities for fulfilling sustainable careers to our graduates through the Nevada Apprenticeship Initiative. Through programs like Tesla MDP, Renown's CNA/Medical Assistant, TMCC's Paraeducator, and Northern Nevada Electrical Training Center, we can change lives for Nevada youth!

With this partnership, JAG Nevada and Nevadaworks will guide recent graduates to skilled trades through apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in exciting, in-demand industries including manufacturing, healthcare, electrical work, education, IT/Tech and finance. Financial support is available, and apprentices can earn while they learn.

If you know any JAG students who might be interested in joining an apprenticeship program, or any organizations that could benefit from developing a pre-apprenticeship/registered apprenticeship program, please reach out to Workforce Development Specialist Maria Rous at mrous@jagnevada.org or Christopher Allen at callen@jagnevada.org or (775) 391-3175.

Accounting Team Member is Employee of the Quarter

Please join us as we congratulate Sean McGrath, JAG Nevada Accountant, as our Employee of the Quarter!

Sean works hard for JAG Nevada, managing all the behind-the-scenes accounting data for team JAG. From tracking spending to booking travel, to charging PEX cards, (some say he's the fastest PEX in the West!) to chasing down invoices and making sure the books balance, Sean is creating the magic to hold it all together and make things happen for the organization.

Never mind the intricate choreography needed to orchestrate the transportation to the Career Development Conference every year. He pulls off miracles to make sure students arrive at the destination in time to compete, and he makes sure everyone returns safe and sound. He does a fabulous job managing the mayhem of transporting hundreds of students and staff from more than 50 programs around the state to one location. He has it down to a science.

Debbie Tarantino, Chief Operating Officer, shared her praise. "Sean's knowledge and expertise makes him an asset to the organization. He is patient and diligent in his effort to serve the students and the specialists. He makes sure he follows the procedures that are in place while making sure the students and specialists both have what they need in a timely manner. Sean is student-centered and focused on good customer service."

Congratulations, Sean! We are so happy you are part of the team!!

Sunshine and James begin MDP journey in Reno

Sunshine and James are recent JAG Nevada graduates from Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts who are entering the Manufacturing Development Program with Truckee Meadows Community College and Tesla in August.

In addition to receiving support for relocation to Reno, they will be provided with training in an accelerated manufacturing program at TMCC. When complete, they will begin new careers at the Tesla Gigafactory where they will make a livable wage and earn benefits.

Sunshine said taking the career exploration trip to Tesla through her JAG class was one of the highlights of her senior year. “They’ve helped me get all the information I need to start school and work with Tesla. They are consistently in contact, just assuring me everything’s going well, and I’m very thankful for the things and people I’ve met through this program.”

James said, “I joined JAG late in my senior year. They immediately gave me a plan for my future - helping me decide how to approach my job. They helped me find a place to live and set up my future, definitely making it less stressful coming out of high school.”

If you would like to learn more about the MDP program and other apprenticeships, please email info@jagnevada.org.
